Last Friday, November 25th, was #IrishCoffeeDay. Movember teamed up with Moyee Ireland and Great Irish Beverages to spark conversation, raise funds and bring a bit of craic to Dublin's South William Side Room

Serving up €5 Irish Coffees cocktails, these delicious drinks brought the perfect breath of boozy air to busy South William Street. Many working in the area came for a cheeky lunchtime drink, and things got very busy in the evening when news got out that these treats turned out to be the perfect, affordable way for many passers-by and party goers to kickstart their Friday nights with a buzz.

Coffee bags, Jameson bottles and delicate tea lights framed the South Dublin window which warmly welcomed people from the cold street. Inside, all were treated like old friends.

Team work makes the dream work.

Moyee Coffee are new to Ireland, but are passionately spreading the word about crafting ethical coffee and what it means to produce the “world’s first fairchain coffee.” As the next step in the fairtrade ethos, fairchain brings coffee production back to the source to share more profit with growers and developing regions.

Great Irish Beverages provided the recipe, ingredients and mixology services to ensure guests savoured every sip. An authority on Irish spirits, Great Irish Beverages run boozy festivals throughout the year, including Whiskey Fest, Cocktail Fest and Gin & Tonic Fest.

The recipe

35 ml Irish Whiskey

100 ml of medium roast coffee

1/2 teaspoon of demerara sugar

1/2 teaspoon of muscovado sugar

1 teaspoon of hot water

1 tablespoon of lightly whipped cream

Fresh nutmeg

Heat a small hot whiskey glass with some boiling water then pour it out. Drop in the sugar and hot water and stir to combine before adding the whiskey.

Pour in the coffee and then gently ladle in the cream. Garnish with some freshly grated nutmeg.
